Wow, what a project. And I kept with it! Only missed a couple days, but I made up for it. I grew a lot. Got way better. Experimented. Wowie zowie. I don't know what I'll do with this blog now that I'm done. Maybe make some sum-up posts or something. Anyway, enjoy 2012!

scanner!

Finally got the scanner running on the other computer. It isn't the greatest, but it is better than taking photos of drawings. It can only scan up to 8.5" x 11". Can't promise all of them will be scanned, but I'll try.

Network July!

July brings portraits of actors and actresses from network television shows! House, Community, Parks and Recreation fill the first three weeks.

Pencils and watercolor.

One of the issues that arises with portraiture based on references is what references the artist (me) picks and the choices made to represent the actor. For the first portrait of Tommy Flanagan, I used a lot of older references, and thus was drawing him younger while also trying to make him look current. I ended up overworking it by going too heavy on the brush line work. Another issue is actor versus character. For this project I am drawing real people, not the characters they play. I found that in a lot of current photos of Tommy Flanagan, he does look a bit like his Sons of Anarchy character Chibs. So I started fresh and went with a more in character looking portrait. The second time around it went a lot faster and I think the likeness is there a little more.

countdown to 2011...

Hello! My name is Trillian and I'm an Illustration Major at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR. I love drawing people, and specifically I love portraiture. Every day for 2011 I will draw a portrait and post it here. Some days will be better than others, and the amount of time I spend on each will vary. Styles and mediums will change as well. There might be running themes for a week or a month. Right now it is very fluid. I just want to improve my skills at representing likenesses.
